Family Day

Our next holiday coming up this Monday is Family Day. Everyone in the province of Alberta gets a day off to spend with their family. What is your family like? I am going to post about mine on my blog.

Happy New Year!

Can you believe it’s 2012?!

We celebrate the new year in many ways here in Canada. Lots of people spend it with family. Others, with friends. In most major cities in Canada, the city launches fireworks at midnight.

Lots of us stay up until midnight and watch the Countdown on TV and do the countdown from 10 seconds and shout “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” when we hit midnight.

How did you spend your New Year’s Eve this year? Did you have holiday celebrations in December this year? What are your family’s holiday traditi0ns?

Cool Runnings

In Calgary, we’re in the process of watching the movie Cool Runnings. How fortuitous that there’s a movie about Calgary and Jamaica! We’re looking for stereotypes of Jamaicans and Canadians in this film (but also really just enjoying this funny story!).

Who Am I???

Over the next couple of weeks, our Canadian students will be exploring their family’s culture and will be creating a multi-media presentation to share with the students in Jamaica.
